Pull It All Out
Grab a few large boxes, a marker and a trash bag. Pull every single item out of the closet until it is completely empty. Then go through the piles, making fast decisions based on: "Do I look great in this?" and "Do I actually wear it?" You are going to see a bunch of things that you think are cute, but don't fit you perfectly. You will find nostalgic items that you never wear, but feel bad parting with. Or, you will find things that fit great, but aren't quite your color, etc. Every single item that isn't perfect for your taste, style and body should be removed from your closet for good; they only get in the way when you are searching for the perfect outfit.
Sorting Your Options
Your clothing pieces will quickly go into one of the following places:
Donate Box: Items that are gently used, without stains or tears, and aren't the perfect fit, color, style, brand or size for you.
Trash Bag: Anything that is torn, missing buttons, stained or badly worn.
Storage Box: A box of items that you don't want to get rid of, but you aren't even sure why. When you are through, tape the box shut and donate it after 3 months if you haven't thought of something you need to pull out of it and wear.
